On the 5th and 6th February 2011 Kickboxkarate students James Harris, George Harris and Kelly Thaxter went out to fight at the Athens Challenge in Greece along with the two Instructors Jacey Cashman and Sean McCarthy. Sean and Jacey were fighting along with three other team mates from the newly formed Team SAP UK who is sponsored by the martial arts brand SAP.
The Team Arrived on the Friday afternoon where we weighed in for our divisions and prepared for the competition over the next two days. Saturday was the open weight divisions and team event. All fighters fought in their open weight divisions but unfortunately did not place. Next up was the team event Team SAP UK won the first round with ease but narrowly lost to the Italian national team (Team Best fighter) in the second round. Team Best fighter placed 2nd overall.
We woke up early on Sunday for the individual weight classes for both kids and adults. In the advanced kids section George Harris was first to kick off the day receiving 3rd place for his efforts. James Harris won his weight class receiving 1st place in the black belt section. Kelly Thaxter entered in the intermediate adults section and received 3rd place. Sean McCarthy and Jacey Cashman both received joint 3rd place fighting in the same weight class. Fellow Team SAP UK member Lee Thackrah received 3rd place in his weight class as well.
It was a great trip and an excellent experience had by all. Thank you to Sue Harris, Richard Harris and Tony Cashman who was behind the team and supporting everyone over the weekend.
